Wealth disparities in Russia are increasing rapidly. A small minority of the population has made huge profits from marketization. About 10% are thought to have benefited in some way.
There is a growing number of dollar millionaires who flaunt their wealth, especially in Moscow. Russia is now the biggest buyer of Rolls-Royce cars, while BMWs, Mercedes and Volvos are relatively common in Moscow and St. Petersburg. A considerable amount of wealth is now deposited abroad, however. There are now thousands of Russian offshore bank accounts; Northern Cyprus is a favorite location. The bosses of organized crime are Russian society's wealthiest group.
